Event: 26th September 2012, Noordwijk
On request by Mr Roger Jegou, head of ESA’s Standards & Engineering Knowledge Division, Dr Kass carried out debriefing sessions with staff of this division concerning the operation of the newly designed ESA Lessons Learned System (ELLS) (which he had earlier designed) as well as on the organisation of so-called Lessons Learned Events.
The first session concerned how the tool worked, and an overview of its inbuilt functions for assisting the review of entries along the various stages of approval, the different roles of various groups of users, such as Domain Responsibles, technical experts, and members of the Lessons Learned Verification Board, and the inbuilt voting system, exchange of comments, notifications, and finally publication.
The second session (held the next day) concerned the organisation of dedicated Lessons Learned Events, at which experts shared their Lessons Learned experience. These events, which Dr Kass had organised during a two-year period, had proved to be of wide interest across ESTEC where they were held. Moreover, an audio-visual archive had been posted on the ESA Intranet after each event, allowing those who could not participate, or wished to have a refresher, to review the event at a later date, including the often interesting discussions following the presentations.
